Updating Your Personal Profile in LeanLaw (My Info)

How to update your personal profile in LeanLaw — including your display name, initials, profile photo, contact details, sign-in method, and personal notification preferences.

Each LeanLaw user has a personal profile — My Info — where you can update how you appear in the product, set your initials for reports and billing, and manage your sign-in method. My Info settings are personal to you and do not affect other users.

 

Accessing My Info

  1. Click the gear icon ⚙️ in the top right of LeanLaw.
  2. In the settings menu, look for My Settings and My Info (distinct from Firm Setup settings which require admin access).
  3. The My Info page opens, showing your personal profile settings.

📋 My Settings vs. Firm Settings: The gear icon opens both personal settings (My Info, Tools, etc.) and firm-wide settings (Firm Setup) if you have access. My Info is personal — only you can see and edit your own profile. Firm Setup settings are for administrators and affect all users.

First and Last Name

Your name as it appears throughout LeanLaw — on time entries, reports, matter access lists, and invoice user credits.

Initials

Your two or three-letter initials. These appear on time entries, invoices, report views, and the billing page to quickly identify your entries. 

Invoice Notifications

Your preferences for when invoices are sent out to clients. Select the options you prefer.

Role

Your role within LeanLaw. This can only be changed by someone with firm setting access.

Starting Tab

Adjust which page you land on when you first enter LeanLaw. This is helpful for

Your email for LeanLaw. If you need to update your email or change your login credentials, reach out to the support team.

 

Setting Custom Initials

If two users at your firm share the same first and last initial (e.g., two attorneys with initials 'JM'), you can set a custom unique initial set to differentiate them:

  1. In My Info, find the Initials field.
  2. Enter your preferred initials (e.g., 'JRM' or 'JMC').

💡 Tip: Custom initials can also be set by firm administrators in Settings → Users → [user profile]. Either you or your admin can update them.

 

Managing Your Sign-In Method

LeanLaw supports three sign-in methods: Google (for Google Workspace accounts), Microsoft 365 (for Outlook/Exchange accounts), and LeanLaw email/password. Your sign-in method is chosen when you first accept your invitation.

To change your sign-in options, contact LeanLaw Support.

⚠️ Stick with your chosen method: LeanLaw links your account to a specific sign-in method when you first log in. If you signed up via Google, always use the Google sign-in button. If you try to log in with a password instead, LeanLaw won't recognize it as the same account.
