Conflict Checking has been upgraded!

1. The matching is far more precise. Depending on what you searched, conflict check used to return too much or too little. It matched fragments inside unrelated words, so a short query could flag matters that had nothing to do with it — and it had no tolerance for a spelling slip, so a name typed from a phone call could miss the party it belonged to entirely.

Now it matches whole words. Punctuation separates words instead of being stripped out, and a small misspelling still reaches the right party: "Kaufman" finds "Kauffman", and "Bob" finds "Robert". You can also check several parties at once, including multi-word names like "Sample Trust Company, as Independent Executor of the Estate of John Doe" — and each result tells you which of your parties produced it.

2. The results are far clearer. Every result now says which field matched and which word matched it. No more opening each record to work out why it appeared.

• Full matches and partial matches are shown separately, with partial matches labelled by how much of the name matched.
• Adverse-party hits are colour-coded, so a match against an adverse party reads differently from a match on your own client at a glance.
• A preview pane opens the client or matter behind a result without leaving the check.
• When nothing is found, the result says so explicitly and names the fields and scope it searched — so a clean check never looks like a broken one.

3. Your checks are now saved. A completed check is kept as a dated record of what you searched, what came back, and who ran it. You can add your own notes — why you cleared a result, what you confirmed, what you escalated — and anyone in your firm can find a previous check later by party name or by date.

Notes stay editable by their author for seven days, after which the record is fixed. A saved check cannot be edited or deleted.

What has not changed

• You still start a conflict check the same way, from the Matters tab.
• LeanLaw does not decide whether a conflict exists. It surfaces and explains candidate matches; the call remains yours.
• Time entry descriptions are still optional, and still off unless you tick the box. Whether they were included is stated on every result.
• Custom fields are not searched. If your firm records parties in a custom field, they will not appear in a check.
