Does LeanLaw have spell check?
LeanLaw relies on your browser's built-in spell check, which works in every text field in the app — time entry descriptions, invoice descriptions, invoice memos, and email delivery text. There is no separate LeanLaw spell checker to turn on.
How it works
Modern browsers check spelling in any text box as you type, underlining words they don't recognise. Right-click an underlined word to see suggestions. LeanLaw works with any browser that has this feature, and works best with Chrome and Edge.
Turning it on
Browser spell check is usually on by default. If you aren't seeing underlines:
- Chrome — Settings → Languages → Spell check
- Edge — Settings → Languages → Writing assistance
- Firefox — Settings → General → Language → Check your spelling as you type
- Safari — Edit → Spelling and Grammar → Check Spelling While Typing
For more than spelling
If you want grammar, tone, and phrasing suggestions as well, a browser extension such as Grammarly works inside LeanLaw the same way it works in Gmail or Word — and it covers every other tool your firm uses, not just LeanLaw. Install it once and it applies everywhere you type.
Note for firms with confidentiality requirements: browser extensions read the text you type. Check the tool's data handling policy against your firm's client-confidentiality obligations before installing, particularly where narratives describe matter substance.
Legal terms and proper nouns
Browser spell check uses a general dictionary, so it will flag Latin legal terms, client and opposing counsel surnames, and local court names as misspellings. You can teach it: right-click the word and choose Add to dictionary. That dictionary is per-browser and per-user, so each person on your team builds their own.
A shared firm-level dictionary is not available in LeanLaw today.
