Previewing Invoices in LeanLaw

How to preview invoice templates and draft invoices in LeanLaw before sending to clients — including template preview during setup and live draft preview from the billing queue.

LeanLaw offers invoice previewing at two stages: while building a template in Settings, and before sending a live invoice to a client. Both let you confirm the invoice looks exactly right before it reaches your client.

Previewing During Template Setup

The LeanLaw template editor includes a live preview pane that updates as you make changes. This lets you see exactly how your customization choices affect the invoice layout in real time.

  1. Go to Settings → Invoice Email and open or create a template.
  2. As you toggle summaries, adjust table fields, add messages, or upload a logo, the preview on the right side of the screen updates automatically.
  3. Scroll through the preview to check how the header, line items, summaries, and footer will appear to your client.
  4. Make any further adjustments, then click Save Template when satisfied.

💡 Tip: The template preview uses placeholder data — it shows the structure and layout of your invoice but not real client data. Always preview a live draft invoice (see below) with actual client data before finalizing your template for a billing run.

Previewing a Live Draft Invoice Before Sending

Before emailing an invoice to a client, you can preview it to verify the content, formatting, and all included line items:

  1. Go to Billing → Manage Invoices.
  2. Find the invoice you want to preview.
  3. Click the Email button for that invoice.
  4. In the email delivery pop-up, look for a Preview option before confirming send. This shows you the exact email and PDF the client will receive.

📋 Note: Invoice preview is available before sending individual invoices. When batch-sending multiple invoices at once, individual preview is not available — the preview step is skipped in the bulk send flow.
