Navigating LeanLaw: A Guide to the Interface

An orientation guide to the LeanLaw interface — the main navigation tabs, Settings, key workflows, and how to find what you need quickly.

This article gives you a quick orientation to the LeanLaw interface so you can find what you need and start working confidently from day one.

Accessing LeanLaw

LeanLaw is a cloud-based application. You access it through a web browser — no software installation is required for the core product.

Navigate to https://next.myleanlaw.co/.
Recommended browsers: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari (latest versions).

Desktop Tracker

Lightweight Windows/Mac app for time entry and timers without a browser.

Mobile App

iOS and Android app for time entry, expenses, and timers on the go. Available free from the App Store and Google Play.

 

The Main Navigation

LeanLaw's primary navigation runs across the top of the screen. The key areas are:

Navigation Area

What You'll Find Here

Dashboard

Access financial performance insights including billables, collections, realization rate, and firm-wide metrics. A pre-release feature.

Calendar

Enter, view, and manage time entries using a calendar view. Start timers, manage snippets, and track billable vs. non-billable hours by timekeeper.

Time Entries

Enter, view, and manage time entries using a table view. Filter by client, matter, timekeeper, activity code, and billing status.

Expenses

Enter and manage billable expenses (soft costs) and view hard costs synced from QuickBooks Online.

Fixed Fees

Create and manage fixed fee assignments, track completion status, and review unassigned fixed fee time entries. A pre-release feature.

Billing

Create and manage invoices, apply payments, and manage the billing workflow from WIP to paid.

Clients

View and manage your firm's client list, including contact details and responsible attorneys.

 Matters

Create and manage client matters, including billing type, responsible attorney, and matter activity.

 Reports

Access financial and operational reports — firm profitability, attorney productivity, billing history, WIP, and more.

Settings ⚙️

Firm Setup, Users, Integrations, My Info, and all configuration options. Located in the top-right corner.

 

Setting Your Default Homepage

You can choose which tab LeanLaw opens on each time you log in — useful if you always start your day in the same area.

  1. Click the gear icon ⚙️ to go to Settings.
  2. Select My Info from the left-hand menu.
  3. Find the Starting Tab option.
  4. Choose your preferred default tab.
  5. Click Save Settings in the bottom right.
