Report Settings and Configuration in LeanLaw
How to configure report settings in LeanLaw — including compensation tracking settings, report access permissions, unallocated fixed fee handling, and export options.
Several settings in LeanLaw directly affect what appears in reports and how data is calculated. This article covers the key report-related configuration options and where to find them.
Report Access Permissions
Access to reports is controlled by user roles:
|
Role |
Report Access |
|
Principal |
Full access to all firm-wide reports. |
|
Operator |
Full access to all firm-wide reports. |
|
Accountant |
Access to billing and financial reports. |
|
Timekeeper |
Access to personal reports only (My Productivity, My Compensation, My WIP, Billed, Collected). No access to firm-wide data. |
|
📋 Note: If a user cannot access the Reports tab, verify their role in Settings → Users. If they need access to specific firm-wide reports, a Principal or Firm Manager may need to adjust their role or permissions. |
Compensation Tracking Settings
The allocation percentages that drive the Compensation (Revenue by Attorney) report and distributions are configured in Settings → Compensation Tracking. Key settings:
- Originating Attorney Share %: The percentage of collected revenue credited to originators firm-wide.
- Responsible Attorney Share %: The percentage credited to responsible attorneys firm-wide.
- Firm Share or Working Share: The fixed or calculated share for either the firm or working attorneys.
- Calculated Value: The allocation value that LeanLaw adjusts automatically to ensure percentages total 100%.
Unallocated Fixed Fee Handling
Fixed fees and expenses that have no user assigned are tracked as 'Non-Attorney Revenue' in the Compensation report. One report setting controls how unallocated fixed fees are attributed:
- Allocate unassigned fixed fees to responsible attorney: When enabled, fixed fees with no Invoice User assigned are automatically credited to the matter's Responsible Attorney in the Compensation report. Configure in Settings → Reports.
|
💡 Best practice: Always set the Invoice User field when creating fixed fees. This ensures revenue is attributed to the correct attorney without relying on the responsible attorney fallback. |
Report Quick-Access Buttons
The Reports page shows quick-access buttons next to each report for common time periods (Current Month, Prior Month, Year to Date). These are fixed shortcuts — they cannot be customized. Use the report's own filter panel for custom date ranges.
Export and Print Options
All standard reports support print and CSV export from the top-right corner. When exporting:
- Export respects current filter selections — narrow filters before exporting.
- CSV exports open in Excel or any spreadsheet application.
- Print creates a PDF-compatible view optimized for paper or digital sharing.
