LeanLaw Reports Overview: A Guide to Every Report

A complete guide to every report in LeanLaw — including how to navigate the Reports page, what each report category covers, how to filter and export data, and how to access Lean Insights.

LeanLaw's Reports section gives you visibility into every dimension of your firm's performance — from individual timekeeper productivity to firm-wide revenue and receivables. This article is your map to the full reports suite.

Accessing Reports

Click Reports in the top navigation bar. The Reports page is organized into grey boxes by topic — each box contains related reports with quick-access buttons for common time periods (Current Month, Prior Month, Year to Date).

📋 Permissions required: Access to reports requires the appropriate user permissions. If you cannot see the Reports tab, ask a Principal or Firm Manager to verify your role permissions in Settings → Users.

To identify what any report does before opening it: hover over the blue question mark icon next to the report name — a tooltip shows a summary of the data it contains.

Reports Page Layout

Reports are organized into sections. Within each section, reports can be grouped by different dimensions (by user, by client/matter, by practice area, etc.). Click any report to open it with the default filter, or use the quick-access date buttons for common periods.

Filtering Reports

All reports share a common filter panel on the left side. Available filters vary by report type but generally include:

Filter

What It Does

Time Period

Set the date range for the report. Drives which invoices, entries, or payments are included based on their date.

Show Matters

Expands the report to show individual matters under each client. Click a matter line to drill into detail.

Show Archived

Includes archived matters and clients in the report results.

Matters Involving

Filters to matters where a specific user is assigned — useful for individual attorney views.

Client / Matter

Filter to a specific client or matter.

Practice Area

Filter to a specific practice area (if configured).

⚠️ Date filter note: Trust and account balances in reports always show today's date — not the end of the selected filter period. All other data (billed, collected, hours) reflects the selected time period.

Exporting and Printing Reports

Most reports support export and print from the top-right corner of the report view:

  • Print: Creates a printable or PDF version of the current report.
  • Export: Downloads the report as a CSV file, openable in Excel.

Export and print respect your current filter selections — narrow filters before exporting to get exactly the data you need.

My Reports (Individual User Views)

In addition to firm-wide reports, individual users can access personal views:

  • My Productivity: Your own hours worked, billed, and unbilled — scoped to your time entries only.
  • My Compensation: Your own Worked, Worked Share, Origination, and Responsible allocation totals.
  • My WIP, Billed, Collected: Your personal contribution to work in progress, billed, and collected.

💡 Tip: Timekeepers with no access to firm-wide reports can still see their own productivity data through the My Reports views. These give individual attorneys visibility into their own numbers without exposing firm-wide revenue data.
