Lien Types and Negotiation Tracking
Understand the lien types supported in LeanLaw and how to track negotiation progress from original amount through final resolution.
Supported Lien Types
| Type | Description | Examples |

| Medical Provider | Healthcare provider asserting a right to payment from settlement proceeds | Hospital bills, surgical center, physical therapy |
| Insurance Subrogation | Insurance carrier seeking reimbursement for benefits paid | Health insurer, auto insurer (MedPay/PIP) |
| Government (Medicare/Medicaid) | Federal/state government program lien | Medicare conditional payments, Medicaid liens |
| Letter of Protection | Agreement to pay a provider from settlement proceeds | Provider treating on LOP basis |

Tracking Negotiation Progress
For each lien, you can track:
- Original Amount — What was initially asserted
- Negotiated Amount — The current or agreed-upon reduced amount
- Status transitions — Pending → Negotiating → Finalized → Paid
This gives firm leadership visibility into negotiation savings (original vs. final) per case.
