Unable to Access LeanLaw – Regional DNS Outage Troubleshooting
Steps to take if you cannot reach the LeanLaw website or login page due to an error "This site cannot be reached" DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN caused by a regional DNS outage affecting your internet service provider
Overview
If you are unable to access LeanLaw's website or login page, and your internet otherwise appears to be working normally, you may be experiencing a regional DNS outage affecting your internet service provider (ISP).
LeanLaw's systems are fully operational during these events. The issue occurs when your ISP is temporarily unable to locate and return LeanLaw's website address to your browser. This is outside of LeanLaw's control, but there are workarounds that can restore your access immediately.
Common Symptoms
- Browser shows a DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN error
- You cannot reach leanlaw.co or next.myleanlaw.co
- Other websites load normally
- The issue affects multiple users at your firm in the same region
Workaround 1: Use Cellular Data (Quickest)
This is the fastest way to restore access and requires no technical steps.
- On your smartphone, turn WiFi off completely.
- Open your browser and navigate to LeanLaw using cellular data only.
- If LeanLaw loads, your phone's cellular network is unaffected by the outage.
- To use LeanLaw on your computer, enable your phone's mobile hotspot and connect your computer to it.
Workaround 2: Change Your DNS Server (Computer Fix)
This tells your computer to use Google's public DNS instead of your ISP to locate websites. This change is safe, reversible, and takes about two minutes.
Windows
- Click the Start menu and search for Control Panel. Open it.
- Go to Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center.
- Click your active WiFi connection name.
- Click Properties.
- Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
- Select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter:
- Click OK to save, then try accessing LeanLaw again.
Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4
Mac
- Click the Apple menu and open System Settings.
- Click Wi-Fi, then click Details next to your active network.
- Click the DNS tab.
- Click the + button and add: 8.8.8.8
- Click OK to save, then try accessing LeanLaw again.
Still Not Working?

- Your internet service provider (ISP) name
- Your city and state
- A screenshot of the error message in your browser
- Whether the issue affects multiple users at your firm across the same network
